Kratom leaves are native Indonesian trees that grow around the forests of Borneo. This plant is included in the Rubiaceae plant class and is still in the coffee plant family.
Kratom leaves or whose Latin name is Mitragyna speciosa also grows in Thailand, Malaysia and Papua New Guinea.

This leaf is also known as ketum leaves by the local community and is an herbal plant used to treat coughs, diarrhea, diabetes, pain relievers. Whereas at higher doses, Mitragyna speciosa will provide a sedative or calming effect.

Traditional people in Thailand and Malaysia believe that the efficacy of Mitragyna speciosa leaves is as an energy booster, stamina, and overcoming fatigue. Meanwhile, the local people of Kalimantan use Mitragyna speciosa Indonesia as a pain reliever. In the US, Mitragyna speciosa is used as a recreational drug and an opioid drug that is easily purchased in extract, powder, or supplement form.

Mitragyna speciosa has been used by many people, especially in Southeast Asia, to treat various medical conditions traditionally, although scientific data is still needed to prove the benefits of kratom leaves for medicinal purposes.
